International Sign?

We learnt Nonverbal Messages today, during Oral Com lecture, and we were talking about emblems, where a gesture or action may be used to replace a word. Example: Thumbs-up, Ok, No! etc

Of course, the middle finger was mentioned.

And our lecturer just said, "Well, it's an international sign. People know what it means. If you're driving and you show your middle finger to another driver, he isn't going to be wondering what it is, right?"

LOL.

And she categorized it under 'basic gestures' later. Awesome.
